Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic Acid: The Body’s “On Switch” for Joint Support

While glucosamine and chondroitin are often in the limelight as major joint health supplements, hyaluronic acid is quickly gaining recognition for its, albeit mysterious, role in supporting healthy joint tissue maintenance. It is known that the body produces its own hyaluronic acid (HA). This is combined with protein and glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) to form proteoglycans, which then combine with collagen to give structure to cartilage. On its own, HA is also found in synovial fluid where it acts as a joint lubricant.*

But current research seems to indicate that, unlike glucosamine and chondroitin, orally consumed HAis not necessarily used as a straightforward joint tissue building block. Two significant observations hint at an alternate mode of action: 1 - when taken orally, only a small amount of HA is actually absorbed and 2 - very small oral dosages (5-15 mg) can provide joint health supporting effects in a very short time. Such small dosages and even smaller absorbed quantities would not deliver enough actual raw material to have any effect as a joint nutrient.*

Though much more research is needed, one possible explanation is that the orally consumed HA is absorbed into the bloodstream where it acts as a signal to the immune system and promotes a healthy anti-inflammatory response. It also seems to stimulate the body’s own production of new native HA which, in turn, encourages healthy joint tissue production and healthy joint lubrication. This could explain why joint health formulas that rely on glucosamine and chondroitin show even better efficacy when combined with hyaluronic acid.*

Wilke Resources provides high-quality sources for all its joint support ingredients. We can help you upgrade your existing product or create a new joint health formula that meets and exceeds your customers’ expectations.

Why Use Hyaluronic Acid from Wilke Resources?

Wilke Resources’ Hyaluronic Acid / Sodium Hyaluronate is single-sourced and is available in both high molecular weight (1.0-1.2 million Da) and low molecular weight (<40,000 Da) versions. While both appear to perform equally as well, the high molecular weight version has garnered the most attention and use. Supportive effects have been seen at the lowest dosages in as little as three to four days.

  • Competitive ingredient represents the future of joint health support. More research needed.
  • Manufactured by microbial fermentation, presently the most cost effective source.
  • Vegan, non-GMO, and non-allergenic.
