Glucosamine

Glucosamine: Naturally Healthy Cartilage Generation

Glucosamine is an aminomonosaccharide that is involved in the ongoing maintenance of healthy joint tissue. Like Chondroitin, glucosamine is used in the synthesis of glycosaminoglycans (GAG) and stimulates the body’s ongoing production of cartilage proteoglycans.*

The body naturally produces glucosamine through a reaction between glucose and glutamine. The high energy required for this reaction makes this the rate-limiting step in the ongoing production of joint tissue components. Supplementing can help by skipping the glucose-glutamine reaction step, providing glucosamine that is ready for use in the creation of healthy joint tissue.*

Recent research (the NIH G.A.I.T. Study1) has found that glucosamine is most effective when taken in conjunction with chondroitin. And the support activity of these two joint tissue building blocks can be further enhanced by the addition of hyaluronic acid and/or MSM.

Wilke Resources provides high-quality sources for all four joint support ingredients. We can help you upgrade your existing product or create a new joint health formula that meets and exceeds your customers’ expectations.

When it Comes to Glucosamine, the Difference is in the Source

Both glucosamine hydrochloride and glucosamine sulfate are easily digested and absorbed, effectively supporting joint health. The sulfate, chloride, and other salts are simply passed as waste; the glucosamine alone is utilized in joint tissue maintenance.*

When choosing between hydrochloride and sulfate ingredients, the deciding factor is stability. Glucosamine hydrochloride is, by far, more stable than the sulfate equivalent, which often requires the addition of sodium or potassium chloride to enhance stability. With this in mind, we single-source our glucosamine products to ensure:

  • The production plant is GMP certified.
  • All product specs conform to the USP monograph on both products.
  • 99%+ purity—much higher purity.
  • A bright white color and larger crystal size, which attests to quality and purity.

Taken orally, glucosamine is fully ionized in the stomach, transformed into its neutral un-ionized form and rapidly absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract, and actively taken up by joint tissue. Glucosamine demonstrates a “more is better” principle when it comes to appropriate dosages to support joint health. Typically a base of 2,000 mg glucosamine per day will exhibit joint health support in four to six weeks. Higher dose protocols (ie. 6,000 mg per day) can exhibit supportive effects in a matter of days.*
