Inulin

Fiber Select® Inulin: Natural, Agave-derived, and Water-soluble

A plant-based sweetener that doesn’t affect blood sugar or require insulin for its healthy utilization in the body, inulin consists of fructooligosaccharides (FOS) that selectively nourish beneficial bacteria (probiotics) in the gut. Inulin is a natural food ingredient found in more than 36,000 plants including leeks, onions, chicory roots, Jerusalem artichoke, garlic, and wheat, as well as the Mexican Agave plant—the source of our Fiber Select® inulin.*

Inulin promotes healthy digestive function by acting as a bulking agent (which supports regularity) and also supporting and nourishing the growth of probiotics in the intestinal tract. By maintaining healthy flora in the gut, inulin ultimately helps to:*

  • Support healthy digestion and nutrient absorption.*
  • Support mineral absorption, including calcium uptake.*
  • Promote a balanced immune response.*
  • Support healthy metabolism of fats and maintain healthy cholesterol levels in the normal range.*

Nourish Bifidobacteria, Promote Whole Health

In the human digestive system, bifidus bacteria are both friendly and beneficial to overall health. Foods that contain FOS can support the growth of bifidus bacteria in the digestive system. And with more bifidobacteria, the digestive system is more effective, absorbing and conveying more concentrated nutritional value from the daily diet.*

Extensive in-vitro research has shown that bifidobacteria selectively ferment inulin. Human studies have confirmed that the ingestion of moderate amounts of inulin results in a significant increase (up to ten-fold) of bifidobacteria in the colon. This helps to support both digestion and immune response.*

Why Natural Select® Inulin?

Each gram of Natural Select® Inulin is selectively beneficial to bifidobacteria, stimulating their metabolism and increasing their activity. Selectively supporting probiotic growth, Natural Select® Inulin does not encourage growth of Candida or other yeast organisms.*

Natural Select® Inulin is extracted from the Agave plant using hot water and further refined using a natural process. The result is Fiber Select® Inulin, which is water-soluble and sweet tasting.

Oligofructose is a natural constituent of inulin. Inulin and oligofructose are composed of linear chains of fructose units linked by b(2-1) bonds and are often terminated by a glucose unit. In Natural Select® inulin, these linear chains consist of 10 to 13 fructose units. The product can serve as both a natural fat and sugar substitute. Samples, specifications, and pricing are available on request.
